THE FRIENDS of Pannett Park have entered the park into the annual Yorkshire in Bloom competition.

Owen Moore, vice chair of the Friends of Pannett Park, said: “Having achieved the prestigious Green Flag status last year the Friends are very keen to show how brilliant the park is and hope to receive regional recognition of this in their entry in Yorkshire in Bloom.”

The park has been entered into the “country houses, estates and parks and gardens” category and judging will take place between 4 and 22 July.

Mark Edwards, honorary keeper of Whitby Museum, said: “It is good to see the museum, art gallery and park working closely together, most recently in order to encourage local schools to visit.

“The restoration of the park has created a wonderful environment for us all.”

Pannett Park’s entry into the competition will also provide a valuable boost to Whitby’s entry into the Britain in Bloom competition.

Friends of Pannett Park were formed in 2005 and they have restored the park thanks to partnerships with residents, local businesses, Whitby Town Council, Scarborough Borough Council and the Heritage and Big Lottery funds.
