IN THE run up to Mother’s Day NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) are asking residents to think of their loved ones and help save lives by donating blood.
Darren Bowen from NHSBT said: “Mother’s Day encourages us to be thankful for the love and guidance mothers can give.
“But it is also important to remind people how much blood can change the lives of others, including that of mothers and their children.
“You never know who will need blood, or when they will need it.”
Currently 7,000 units of blood are needed everyday to help save the lives of sick and injured patients across England and North Wales, yet only four per cent of the eligible population give blood.
Anyone aged between 17-65 and in general good health could potentially become a blood donor.
Blood donor sessions are planned at Whitby Leisure Centre on Thursday 10 March and Thursday 31 March.
Both sessions take place between 2pm and 4.15pm and 5pm and 7pm.
To book an appointment call the donor Line on 0300 1232323 or visit www.blood.co.uk.
