THE BISHOP of Whitby delivered a service in York recently, praising the region’s volunteer members of St John Ambulance.

In his address, delivered at a service of thanksgiving and re-dedication at York Minster, the Right Rev Dr Martin Warner praised the members for their volunteering spirit.

He added: “In a society that constantly asks ‘what’s in it for me?’ volunteers are sometimes regarded as second best.

“Nonetheless St John Ambulance members still step forward with all their skills.

“Your uniform makes a statement, you are easily picked out in a crowd and you make yourself available to others.

“At a time when young people are under great scrutiny, many youngsters continue to serve in St John Ambulance, showing the true quality of young people, people who strive to make a difference.”
