Local singer and songwriter Alistair Griffin is giving upcoming bands and musicians the chance to take the stage at a major music event he is holding in Whitby later this month.

The Fame Academy contestant is hosting a Battle of the Bands event next Thursday night.

As well as being a chance for local acts to showcase their talent, the winner will open the Whitby Rising event being held on Eskdale School fields on July 23.

It is at The George pub in Whitby on July 7, from 9pm

Alistair will also be playing a short set on the night with his own band.

The evening is being hosted by MC Keith and to book a slot to perform on the night call or text 07515826806.

Whitby Rising is happening at Eskdale School on Saturday July 23 where Alistair and other acts from The Voice and X Factor will be performing.

It is the first time Alistair will be headlining a show in Whitby for over 10 years.

Other acts on the bill so far include The Voice finalist Beth McCarthy and X Factor’s Abi Alton, as well as local acts and Whitby favourites Eight Feet Tall and Moonwreck.

Alistair said: “Whitby already hosts some great events, but I want to create a music event for local people and showcase Whitby to the world”

A spin off from the music events is a Crazy Golf Championship playing for the Rising Cup at the Arnold Palmer course on the West Cliff on Tuesday July 12 at 6.30pm.
