Artwork in Whitby’s Pannett Park has recently increased with the addition of a handsome, wrought-iron archway designed by James Godbold and crafted at his forge in Egton.
It has been installed at the Newton Road/Union Steps entrance of the park and the design incorporates fruit to reflect the park’s former use as a market garden and orchard. In time, it will be clothed in honeysuckle.
Should you be walking up Union Steps you may notice that the large rockery just above it is looking less than attractive at the moment. It is currently being prepared for a whole new style of planting in the autumn which will be enhanced by the recently planted silver birch, ‘Grayswood Ghost’ close by.
