YOUNGSTERS from Hinderwell Youth Club enjoyed the thrill of the speedway recently thanks to securing some grant funding.
The young people, their parents, and volunteers all travelled by coach to Teesside Motorsport Arena where they were treated to a competition between the Redcar Bears and Newcastle Sapphire Diamonds.

The Youth Club enjoyed VIP treatment from the event organisers which included a guided tour of the pits before the races began, and meeting some of Redcar’s top riders.

The members were delighted to receive a mention in the competition programme and to hear their name over the loud speakers.

The funding which made the youth club trip possible was a grant from the North Yorkshire County Council’s Youth Opportunity Fund “Young Money” and was applied for by the club's young members themselves.

Hinderwell Youth Club expressed its thanks to North Yorkshire Youth for their help with the grant which funded the trip.

Sue Howell of Hinderwell Youth Club, said: “We’d like to thank Ian Waines, North Yorkshire Youth field development worker who joined us on the trip, Gareth Rodgers of Redcar Bears Speedway LTD and Gibbo, for all of his expertise on the night.

“A great evening was had by all and is recommended as a good family night out.”

The grant from the Young Money Trust will also go towards a go-karting trip for a group of 16, 17 and 18-year-olds from the youth club.

The youth club is still desperately in need of helpers.

Anyone who can help should call Vicky Gale on (01947) 841345 or Sue Howell on (01947) 841261.
