PEOPLE of all ages and sporting abilities in Whitby are being urged to pull on their running shoes and get active for this year's Sport Relief fund-raising mile.
Caedmon School PE teacher Shaun Hopper is organising the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in Whitby and hopes more people than ever will join in the event, whether it is one, three or six miles.

The event is to take place on Sunday 21 March from 10am
. Mr Hopper hopes getting his pupils involved will help spread the word of the race across the town and help to achieve the biggest turn-out yet.

He said: "The Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in Whitby is here again and it's your time to shine.

"From teeny tots to mums and dads, there's something for everyone on the big day. Best of all, the money you raise by getting sponsored will be used to transform lives forever.

"So come on Whitby, rise to the challenge."

He wants to encourage people to register online, where they can get their sponsor forms and fund-raising kits. As there is a small registration fee, he has entered the pupils of Caedmon School in his name so they can be exempt from this.

It is also possible to track the school and sponsor them online. Sainsbury's Sport Relief Miles take place all over the UK, and since its launch in 2002, 1.25 million people have taken part to raise over £75 million.

Two years ago 250 runners raised £700 for Sport Relief at Caedmon while at Lythe Primary School, 100 pupils between three and 11-years-old donated £400 from their efforts. Sign up at www.sportrelief.com/the-mile/whitby-mile
