HUNDREDS of people turned out to watch Whitby lifeboat crew and the stars of Emmerdale fight it out in a football match at the town's Turnbull Ground on Sunday.
The game, which was organised to raise as much cash as possible for the life-saving charity, netted £3,000 for Whitby Lifeboat funds.

Stars including Kelvin Fletcher who plays farmer Andy Sugden and Danny Miller who appears as bad boy Aaron Livesy were among the cast members and crew who took to the pitch.

Emmerdale scored the only goal of the game, three minutes before the final whistle.

Veteran actor Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard in the soap, gave the commentary during the match and ran an auction after the game which raised just short of £1,000.

Mike Russell, coxswain of Whitby Lifeboat said: "Everyone from Emmerdale was fantastic. It was a very very good day. They don't have to do it and it was very good of them. They all said they had enjoyed it so much they want to make it an annual event or have a re-match whenever they can sort it."
