These shots were captured by a CCTV camera last month at the floral clock in Pannett Park., but have only just been released by police.

The two youths in distinctive clothing can be seen tampering with the hands of the clock.

The hands, 6ft and 7ft long and weighing a total of 40 kilos, have since had to be taken away to be repaired.

The hands are maintained by Scarborough Council.
Joe Plant, a founder member of the Friends of Pannett Park who helped get the floral clock into the park expressed his disgust at the damage.

"I am very, very disappointed to learn of this vandalism," he told the Whitby Gazette.

"A lot of people put many voluntary hours in to get the clock into Whitby and it is enjoyed by a great many people.

"I hope the people who committed this mindless act are caught quickly."

Whitby police have appealed for anyone who may recognise the pair to come forward.

Sgt Steve Pearse said: "Between midninght and 1am on Sunday 1 June these two youths were caught on CCTV causing damage to the floral clock situated adjacent to Chubb Hill Road in Whitby.

"The images clearly show two youths at the scene and police are asking for anyone who recognises the people shown in the picture, possibly by the clothing they are wearing, which is quite distinctive, to contact PC 1948 Becky Laylor on (0845) 6060247."
