SKINNER Street and Flowergate have both been spruced up in time for the tourism season to get underway.
The roads are looking better than they have for some time following re-surfacing and improvements.

Skinner Street was closed for two days last week and then Flowergate also suffered some disruption.

Some Skinner Street businesses told the Gazette they had a quieter day than usual on Wednesday and the work continued into Thursday – by Friday work on Skinner Street had finished.

Les Parker, the county council’s improvement manager, told the Whitby Gazette: “The frost has really taken it out of the roads and potholes are a problem nationally.

“But we have re-surfaced the whole lot now on Flowergate and on Skinner Street.

“It’s been very disruptive for businesses.

“I can appreciate that, but hopefully these roads will now last us a good few years.”

Work was expected to be completed by the weekend and workmen were finishing off by re-painting the yellow and white road markings on Flowergate.
