STAITHES lifeboat rescued a 28ft yacht last Tuesday night when it was unable to get back into Whitby due to engine failure.
Staithes RNLI lifeboat launched at 8.20pm after the yacht, Achilles II, became disabled one and half miles north of the village.

The yacht's skipper radioed the coastguard to report his engine had failed while on passage to Whitby for mast repairs.

The yacht's sail was hoisted but little headway was being made into the wind.

The volunteer lifeboat crew quickly found the yacht and checked the two men on board were fit and well.

With the light fading it was decided the best action was to tow the yacht to Whitby.

The yacht was safely moored in Whitby soon after 10pm and the Staithes lifeboat returned to station at 10.30pm.
