WHITBY Town Council has asked Scarborough Council to install some lighting in White Horse Yard in Whitby.
Each year the town council gets to chose one area to receive a lamp for the borough's budget and councillors felt the yard needed some extra lighting.

Coun Ian Havelock said: "At night White Horse Yard can be very dangerous at night, especially for the elderly as it is dark and there are steps also."

The council also agreed to make the borough council aware it was considering the possibility of match funding the cost of a lamp for Helredale playing field.

A lamp costs in the region of £1,500.

The request will now be submitted to Scarborough Council which will install the lighting.
