POLICE carried out a drugs raid at an address in Whitby's Larpool Crescent on Saturday morning where they recovered four bags of cannabis.
Eight officers executed a search warrant at the the property at 6.57am where they recovered a "quantity" of illegal drugs.

Drug paraphernalia was also recovered.

A police spokesman said a 19-year-old local man was arrested for possession of a class C substance and had been bailed to appear at Scarborough Magistrates' Court later this month.

The drug was confirmed as cannabis by the spokesman who said the police could not confirm the quantity of the drug found.

Posession of a class C substance carries a penalty of up to two years in prison or an unlimited fine or both.

Earlier this week home secretary Jacqui Smith told MPs cannabis is to be reclassified as a class B drug.

It had been downgraded to a class C substance by Tony Blair's Government.
