SITES for new housing in Whitby and the area continue to be considered by Scarborough Council's planners and residents are urged to make the council aware of their views on them.
A council spokesman said the public had responded well to the most recent consultation exercise on future housing and such local knowledge and comment would help planning officers in their assessment of the sites.

David Walker, the council’s forwa
rd planning manager said: “These consultations are part of the continuing work on the Scarborough Borough Local Development Framework which will, over time, replace the Local Plan and set out the policies and land allocations that will inform all planning decisions taken in the borough over the coming years.”

The Government’s Regional Spatial Strategy will shortly be published in its final form.

The document will confirm the overall amount of development that will have to be accommodated across the region, and within the borough up to 2026.

It forms the starting point for the council’s own Local Development Framework.

A total of 29 more sites have been submitted for consideration in Whitby and seven in the parish of Eskdaleside-cum-Ugglebarnaby. Any housing developments in Whitby must include 40% of affordable dwellings while in the villages 50%must be affordable.

The new sites can be seen on the council’s website and anyone wishing to comment on them should do so by letter or email.

All additional sites that may be suggested for inclusion within the Local Development Framework over the coming months will also be posted on the website at www.scarborough.gov.uk – information is also available on 01723 232480.
