STAFF working for CE Electric, which provides thousands of homes and businnesses in Whitby and the rest of the North East of England with electricity, have begun industrial action.
The workers belong to the union Unite and are employed at Northern Electric Distribution Limited and Yorkshire Electricity Distribution, which are owned by CE Electric.
They have decided to ban overtime and withdraw standby cover indefinitely unless a dispute over pay can be resolved.
Of the 1,100 staff, 95% voted in favour of industrial action after rejecting a 3.8% pay increase.
