THREE men diced with death when they scaled up the 30ft mast of the Grand Turk ship in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The men, who were believed to have been drunk, were spotted by a member of the public climbing up the rigging of the ship in Endeavour Wharf.

Fearing for their safety the witness alerted the police at 4.50am.

Firefighters from Whitby and the aerial ladder platform from Scarborough were also called to the scene to assist police.

But when the emergency services arrived the men had already come down of their own accord and made off.

Firefighters used thermal imaging equipment and lighting equipment to search the area but were unsuccessful in finding the men.

After a short search the crews returned to the station at 5.29am.
