Drunk is rescued by lifeboat after jumping from Whitby pub balcony

EMERGENCY services rescued a drunken man yesterday after he jumped 20ft from a pub balcony into Whitby harbour.
The 35-year-old man who had been drinking heavily leapt from the balcony of the Shambles Bar and Restaurant in Market Place at around 5.50pm.

Whitby's inshore lifeboat, coastguards and an ambulance were all called to the scene.

The lifeboat crew rescued the man who was found sitting on a pipe just above the surface of the water, underneath Whitby boat house.

He was lifted on board and taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesborough where he was treated for minor injuries.
