WHITBY Abbey is looking for assistance from potential young quizmasters as it plans this summer's Treasures Trail at the historic cliff-top site.
With pirates planned to visit the Abbey on Saturday and Sunday, participants on the trail will be invited to solve cryptic clues to find many of Whitby Abbey’s hidden treasures and receive a prize for their efforts.
However, organisers are appeal
ing for help in creating fun and clever clues to send visitors on the right path.
“Treasure hunts are fantastic fun, especially when there is a bit of a challenge involved, so we are looking to have some very clever clues to send treasure hunters from one location to the next,” said English Heritage’s regional marketing manager, Nicola Bexon.
“We are hoping children can help us to create some tricky clues to challenge visitors over the coming months.”
English Heritage has written to primary schools all over Whitby with invitations to participate and is now expanding the competition to be open to anyone aged 16 or under. Ten possible locations for the clues are posted on-line at www.fim.org.uk/whitby and entrants can either email their clues or post them to Whitby Abbey Treasures Competition, Footprint, PO Box 4, Leeds LS15 8WX.
The creative writers whose clues are chosen will receive a family pass to Whitby Abbey valid until the end of September. Call (0113) 251 5698.
