A super fit triathlete from Fylingthorpe is heading out to Lanzarote next Saturday to take part in what is said to be one of the world’s most difficult Ironman competitions.

Karl Wittering (57) who runs Dr Cranks Bike Shop in Skinner Street will f ly out to the volcanic island with wife Carole. Once there, he will take part in the test of mind over matter where he will take part in a two and half mile swim in the sea, followed by a 112 mile bike ride and a 26 mile run along with 2,000 other competitors.

He has been doing triathalons for 26 years and hopes to complete the feat in just 12 hours, for fun.

“I can’t wait, it’s not as hard as people think,” he said.
