1965: Optimism regarding Whitby harbour trade

The Patria is pictured here in February 1965, offloading about 1,000 tons of timber at Whitby’s new Endeavour Wharf, with a lime ship taking on a cargo in the background.

The Patria was followed by two other vessels which brought a further 1,000 tons.

Confidence that Whitby’s harbour enterprise will be successful was expressed by the importers after their “shot in the dark” enterprise.

Cllr John Dunning spoke of the satisfaction felt by the expansion of the harbour trade and it was hoped to see more cargo ships queuing up to use the wharf.
