Whitby Pavilion autumn line-up revealed
THE autumn line-up of live music and entertainment has been unveiled by bosses at Whitby Pavilion.
It includes a mesmerising mix of local performers and touring companies who are among the biggest in their field.
Jeremy Hartill, Whitby Pavilion executive manager, said: "We have got a programme with a great mix of local theatre groups, touring shows, live music and great comedy.
"This autumn also sees the launch of the cinema at the Pavilion which will be great new addition for Whitby."
Live Music includes the mighty 11 piece English folk band Bellowhead who have been described as "the biggest, rowdiest and quite probably best thing to have happened to English Folk" by Q Magazine.
Merging folk, jazz, soul and world music influences with a twist of English Music Hall, Bellowhead will be performing at Whitby Pavilion Theatre on 16 November.
They play more than 20 instruments in a unique mix that defies easy categorisation.
Having played Musicport Festival in Whitby 2005 they have gone on to become one of the major acts on the live circuit and to get them playing in an intimate venue such as Whitby Pavilion is a rare treat that should not be missed.
And on 11 December the defining voice of contemporary English folk – Kate Rusby – will be bringing her Christmas show to Whitby Pavilion. The songstress last performed at Whitby Pavilion in 2008.
Kate's exquisite interpretations of traditional songs and finely wrought self-penned tunes have won her an audience that reaches beyond the genre - a rare achievement for a folk artist but entirely understandable given Rusby's expressive vocals that invest whatever she sings with irresistible emotional depth.
Comedy greats will also be taking to the stage at Whitby Pavilion Theatre when Jeremy Hardy who is best known for his work on Radio 4's News Quiz I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue and Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation.
In 2010, he published a book,My Family and Other Strangers, chronicling his desperate search for interesting ancestors.
