Scouts camp out

A TROOP of Whitby scouts braved bad weather to join 150 scouts from across the country at a winter camp.

Nine members of the Eskmouth (Whitby) Scout Troop spent the weekend at Thornthwaite near Harrogate in constant drizzle and strong winds.

They took part in outdoor activities such as climbing, abseiling, archery, a technical mountain circuit, slack-lining, and crate stacking.

While inside they also enjoyed pyrography, circus skills, African drumming and pillow fighting.

During the weekend organised by Harrogate and Nidderdale District Scouts Charlotte Locker and George Astin moved up and were invested into the Whitby District (KB) explorer unit.

The troop meet at Spring Hill Scout Hall on Thursdays, 7pm-9pm and are open to girls between 10 and 14. This term they will be concentrating on first aid, navigation skills and personal fitness.

The next camp event is in May and is a hill walking and map reading challenge in the Yorkshire Dales.
