Runswick Bay
The following is a poem emailed to us by Richard Colgrave of Sheffield.
Dawn brings them all, excited tourists with bat and ball
Playing in the summer sun
Ice-creams, pleasure boats, all are having fun.
But, afternoon tides wash these invaders from the shore
While children cry 'i want to play somemore'
As they leave the sleek sports cars roar past
while tired, old bangers slowly gasp
Up the hill and out of the bay
Foot flat down and they are away.
Then at dusk, fisherman parade on the beach
Torches and lamps just out of reach
These hardy, illuminated souls brave the evening gales
Standing motionless through rain, sleet or hail.
These jolly folk are dreaming of fish to fry
But remind me of a scene from Madame Butterfly
Hours skip by and the tide moves in
And the bay is quiet once again.
