WITH the sun shining there is no better time to learn about and enjoy the wonders of nature and Whitby Naturalists’ Club is looking for new members.
It is the beginning of the summer programme for the Whitby Naturalists` Club and a variety of field trips arranged for the period May to September started on 7 May, when Mike Yates led a walk to observe and learn about the many wild flowers and provide some history about the beautiful valley of Kirkdale near Kirbymoorside.
The members saw a wonderful variety of spring flowers but in particular enjoyed the large number of Yellow Archangels – a nationally scarce plant for which Kirkdale is particularly well known.
A unique feature of the Whitby Naturalists` Club, with the Centenary year fast approaching in 2013, is the range and diversity of its interests and members who include both experts in their various fields as well as keen amateur naturalists who just appreciate learning about what is going on in their own back garden.
A year’ s subscription is £6 . For more information about becoming a member contact Mike Barrett on (01947) 811894 or email at email@example.com.
