WHITBY in Bloom are calling for residents to help the town’s bid for national horticultural success.
Residents with a “how can I help?” attitude are being asked to support the group as they prepare Whitby for its participation in the national Britain in Bloom contest.
Whitby in Bloom’s Susan Davies said: “Summer will soon be here and after the trials and tribulations of one of the worst winters on record, followed by a beautiful but very dry spring, the volunteers of Whitby in Bloom are working very hard to help the statutory services to restore the town to its former glory.
“When we last represented the town in the national competition in 2007 all our bedding plants were blackened to cinders three times in spring and had to be replaced and we still pulled together to win a silver award, so we are confident we can rise above adversity.”
To help Whitby in Bloom, meet under the Scoresby Nest on New Quay Road on Thursday 19 May at 6.30pm, Thursday 26 May at 6.30pm, or contact Wendy Holiday at Stakesby School to learn how you can help on Wednesday 18 May.
