Hilarious night in store for live comedy lovers

Duncan Oakley

Duncan Oakley

A HILARIOUS comedy night featuring the best of the UK and international comedy scene is coming to a venue in Whitby.

Hilarity Bites Comedy Club presents Duncan Frickin’ Oakley at The Coliseum Centre, Whitby next Saturday.

The show will feature an evening with comedian Duncan playing an improvised mixture of his old favourites and his latest scribblings with a few guileless musings thrown in for good measure.

With musical skills that would easily fit into many rock bands, Duncan performs an infectious mix of musical comedy and stand up with one of his trusty guitars – Maurice (Fender Strat), No.7 (acoustic) or his Les Paul (the Lezza) by his side.

With an eye and ear for the silly, rude, playful and downright irritating occurrences of life, Duncan musters up songs that not only make people laugh, they bury into the recesses of your mind and find you a humming tune with a smile on your face three days later, confused and wondering where it’s come from.

Duncan has performed for nearly 10 years on the stand up circuit and performs regularly at some of the UK’s bigger weekend clubs as well as festivals and university gigs.

The art school drop out is a talented all-round musician and can also perform with harmonica, drums and piano as a one man musical whirlwind.

He has performed live since he was 15 years old and joined the comedy circuit in 1999.

Duncan is known for being very naughty and really quite rude, at least on stage; but this cheerfully childish behaviour belies his credentials as a seasoned professional show off.

He has received rave reviews from a number of publications including City Life magazine who said: ““Unlike some musical comics who rely on a guitar to get them through, Oakley’s routine deftly mixes the tunes with the stand-up.”

Maureen Lynch, events coordinator said: “It’s a good, small intimate venue for comedians because you are closer to the comedian and feel you are part of what’s going on, rather than being sat up in the gods, miles away.

“The last comedian we had was really popular.”

The Coliseum Centre is run by the Whitby Area Development Trust and is a registered charity.

It offers IT classes, room hire, craft classes in the James Cook Theatre and
as well as putting on events.

It also has a cafe run in conjunction with the Dalewood Trust which gives the volunteers the opportunity to work in a real catering environment.

Tickets can also be bought direct from Whitby Coliseum, either in person or by calling (01947) 825000.

They can also be purchased online from.hilaritybites.co.uk, See Tickets, TicketWeb, WeGotTickets or Skiddle.

Tickets for this show are £10 each on the door, or £8 in advance.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm.
