Happy times in store at Open Air Theatre for fans of the Mondays

Happy Mondays 2012

Happy Mondays 2012

Critically acclaimed, alternative rock band Happy Mondays will bring their unmistakable sound to Scarborough Open Theatre on Saturday 22 June.

The Manchester-based band are the fifth act to be announced for this summer’s line up at Scarborough Open Air Theatre following recent announcements of The Wanted (14 June), Leona Lewis (12 July), Status Quo (27 July) and McFly (30 August).

Happy Mondays have toured extensively in the UK and internationally in its various incarnations over the last three decades, playing to sell out crowds along the way.

Few debut albums could lay claim to have had the impact of the band’s Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out) album, released in September 1985.

The latest line up was launched exclusively on radio station Xfm last month when it was announced that the band would return with the original and definitive line up of Shaun Ryder (lead vocals), Gary Whelan (drums), Mark Day (lead guitar), Paul Ryder (bass guitar), Paul Davis (keyboard), Mark Berry aka Bez (percussion), widely known for his ‘manic on stage antics’, and Rowetta Satchell (backing vocals).

The band announced in September 2012 that it was writing its first album with the original line up in more than 20 years and is due to be released later this year.

Tickets for the Scarborough gig, priced £32.50 will go on sale in person at The Sands offices in Scarborough from 9am tomorrow before general release at 10am when they will also be available from Whitby Tourist Information Centre.
