Glaisdale legend told in short film

A FILM has been made about Beggar's Bridge in Glaisdale – on a shoestring budget.

The Legend of Beggar's Bridge is an independent short film (25 mins), based on a 400-year old legend and has been produced by Eboracum Pictures of York.

The film is Teesside-born producer/director Andrew Davies' first film and is part-narrated by well-known actor Andrew Dunn (of Coronation Street and Dinnerladies fame).

The production team is made up of recent graduates and current students of TV and Film courses at the University of Teesside, the University of York and York St John University.

Set in Glaisdale in the picturesque North Yorkshire Moors, this endearing folk tale passed down by many generations tells of the poor Tom Ferries and his secret relationship with the local squire's daughter, Agnes Richardson and reveals how the bridge and the legend came to be.

The film was produced on a micro-budget and is the first production for Eboracum Pictures.

It will be entered into festivals throughout the remainder of 2010, with a DVD release planned for later in the year. The DVD will also include a 'Making Of' documentary and a short documentary about the bridge.

The production has had help from a number of locals in Glaisdale and filming locations included Glaisdale, Egton Bridge, Goathland, Whitby, Middlesbrough, York and Halifax.

People wanting more information can visit the film's official website at www.beggarsbridge.com

As well as the trailer, there are clips of the behind the scenes video and people are also invited to sign up to a monthly newsletter to be kept updated on the progress of the film.

There is also a fan page that has been set up on Facebook, which can be found by typing The Legend of Beggar's Bridge into the search option.
