Folk festival relocates to Kildale

A MAJOR folk festival is to relocate to Kildale in the North York Moors, its organisers have announced.

The long-running Festival On The Moor, a not for profit community group, has made the decision to move its annual May Bank Holiday event to the village from Pickering, after positive feedback from local folk fans.

Kildale Folk Weekend will run between Friday 24 May and Monday 27 May at Kildale Village Hall and the adjacent showfield, with more than 20 acts over the four days.

Organiser Jeanette Grainger said: “We’re delighted be coming to Kildale, as we know the festival brings great benefits to the North York Moors region, both economically in attracting new visitors and in a cultural sense, as we aim to bring high quality performers and events to the area.

“The festival is significant as it gives an opportunity for local musicians to perform alongside national and international acts.

“It also gives folk and roots fans throughout Teesside and the north east a chance to enjoy the some of the cream of the folk and roots world on their own doorstep.”

While many acts are still to be confirmed, the festival has already announced its headliners: Iconic band Home Service will play on the Saturday night.

Led by the talented musician and writer John Tams, Home Service were named Best Live Act of 2012 in the BBC Folk Awards.

Also on the bill will be Commondale folk signer Richard Grainger, harpist Fiona Katie Roberts, traditional performers Steve Dawes and Helen Pitt, Scottish singer and songwriter Bill Adair, Cherrington and Ward, there will be Balkan music from Hase Waits and a performance from young Teesside group General Sherman plus much more.

A festival taster concert is also planned and a date will be announced in the near future.

In the meantime, early bird tickets for Kildale Folk Weekend are now on sale and can be purchased by logging on to www.festivalonthemoor.co.uk
