THE photographic society held their first competitions of the year on 31 January.

Paul Wilson of The Victorian Image on Sandgate was guest judge for Whitby Photographic Society’s two prize categories.

He chose Carol Walker as winner of both the Gillings Trophy and the Brown Trophy with her entries, entitled Storm Brewing and Proud Parents.

Second place in the two categories went to Eleanor Ward (Sunset Couple) and Richard Day (Bransdale), respectively.

On Thursday 21 February the photographic society is hosting Scarborough freelance photographer Tony Bartholomew.

He will give a talk on his 25 years’ experience working for news and media organisations.

The event takes place in the Normanby Room at Whitby Museum at 6.45pm

Entry for non-members is £2.
