Jammers aiming high with charity gig

A BAND is hoping to aim high and raise a ‘shed load’ of cash in aid of a lifesaving charity.

The Watershed Jammers are back by popular demand to perform a gig at the Salmon Leap in Sleights for the Great North Air Ambulance on Friday 10 February.

Last year, the money-spinner netted more than £500. This time around, the band almost all of whom are from the Whitby area, return with a much improved line-up to play and sing an eclectic mix of everyone’s favourites.

Expect to hear hits from Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, country and a host of old rock.

One of the organisers Brian Crinion said: “The event last year was terrific, so many people and businesses donated prizes and money and we’re hoping for the same again.

“The air ambulance is essential in this area, for example if you get a young girl with a complicated pregnancy like we had at Egton Bridge last year, the only thing that’s going to get her to safety is the air ambulance.

“We shouldn’t have to do these fund-raisers.

“It should be public funded – but that’s not going to happen so we all have to help out.

“This service is absolutely essential if you live in a rural area.”

Entrance to the event, which starts at 8.30pm is free.

A prize draw will be held on the night and everyone is welcome.

Mr Crinion is appealing for raffle prizes for the event.

Anyone who can help is asked to call him on (01947) or (07799) 216512.
