‘I’ve got a bad feeling about this’
Star Wars characters at the opening of Outpost 31
AN INTER-GALACTIC empire to rival Scarborough Borough Council visited Whitby recently to celebrate the opening of a new store.
Outpost 31, which takes its name from the remote station in John Carpenter’s The Thing, was recently opened on Grape Lane with the assistance of a couple of Stormtroopers and other Star Wars characters.
For Adrian Booth, whose family are all huge film and gaming fans, the store is an opportunity to share their love of movie memorabilia. He has been collecting for 30 years and said: “At home we have even converted the basement into a cinema, with a 180-inch screen and a HD projector.”
But Adrian hopes that the store will provide a spot for collectors and movie fans to come together. There is even the talk of establishing a graphic novel exhibition and attempting to host Whitby’s on comic convention. “We realised that there was nowhere for collectors or kids at the college, so that’s why we set the store up,” he added. “The idea is to get a place up and running that collectors can come to.” The stormtroopers should return for a sequel in the near future, and Adrian hopes the costumes can be used to raise awareness of Whitby charities.
