Chefs line up to make a real meal of festival event
A TOP Whitby chef will be serving up a culinary storm during a grand food extravaganza.
Rob Green, of Greens, is set to show off his award-winning expertise at the Malton Food Lovers Festival.
Mr Green, who has won a string of coveted National Seafood Chef of the Year honours, will take to the stage alongside fellow stellar chefs, in May to delight food lovers across the region.
The festival, now in its fourth year, attracts thousand of food fans eager to sample dishes from the very top table, and will take place over two days in Malton’s historic Market Place.
The itinerary will include a raft of chef demonstrations, with more than 100 stalls featuring local produce and an expanded beer, wine and cider festival in the Milton Rooms.
Visitors will also get the chance to learn from culinary royalty as the festival’s five superior patrons, including esteemed Italian cook Antonio Carluccio, will be giving demonstrations in the cookery theatre.
There will be even more icing on the cake with a visit from two new chefs, both with a prominence that stretches well beyond Yorkshire.
Ben Cox, Yorkshire Life Dining Pub of the Year 2011 winner and Yorkshire Pudding Champion from the Star at Sancton, near Market Weighton, and Lionel Strub, chef patron from the Mirabelle in Harrogate, will join a culinary cast of award winners and professional chefs, including Michelin Starred James Mackenzie from The Pipe and Glass Inn at Beverley, Peter Neville from Harome’s Pheasant Inn and Antony Gillham, joint owner and chef at The New Malton.
There will also be an extended Welcome To Yorkshire Food Lovers Taste Trail across the town, with a programme of masterclass tasting tutorials, book signings, an Army kitchen and street theatre and outdoor music.
Tom Naylor-Leyland, organiser of the festival, said they were buoyed by its previous success and hoped the new line-up would create a great mix for people to savour.
He added: “We are now in our fourth year and the event is a real showcase for our spectacular chef line-up.
“It is the best line up of any country food festival in the UK, and the top quality locally grown produce.
“We are proud to be known as Yorkshire’s Finest”.
The festival takes place over the weekend of Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 May.
