Alistair Griffin’s No1 bid with record label
CASTLETON pop star Alistair Griffin has secured a record deal with Decca Records for his new Olympic inspired track which he hopes will secure the No 1 spot in the charts this Christmas.
The fund-raising single penned by Alistair and released on 16 December, features a choir of Games Makers formed during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The all-volunteer group, who performed at the Olympic Park during the games, have teamed up with singer songwriter Alistair to record the new song called I Wish For You The World at Islington’s Angel Studios.
It is being backed by London Mayor Boris Johnson.
The group who have signed with record label Decca Records, who were also behind last year’s Christmas No1, also has the backing of gold medal winning Olympians and Paralympians.
Mayor Boris Johnson who has thrown his support behind the cause said: “This song is a great tribute to those feelings of pride, inspiration and goodwill that spread throughout London and the rest of the country during the 2012 Games.
“I wish everyone involved the best of luck in their efforts in keeping the Olympic spirit alive.”
The song, which will feature in BBC Sports Personality of the Year’s coverage, has also garnered support from Sports Personality nominee and gold medal winning rower Katherine Grainger who has pledged her support for the Games Makers.
MP and former Olympics Minister Dame Tessa Jowell has also been pivotal in getting the venture off the ground and has also praised the dedicated volunteers and Alistair.
I Wish for You the World will be a charity record with proceeds from the single being donated to the British Olympic Foundation and British Paralympic Association to be used to develop and create opportunities for aspiring young people in pursuit of obtaining their Olympic and Paralympic dreams.
The idea and the sentiment of the song, is about giving something back and Alistair hopes the inspiring and emotive single will keep the Olympic spirit alive for all.
The Formula 1 fan, who recently penned the sound track to Sky Sports flagship Formula 1 coverage and numerous other sporting anthems, said: “I wrote the song after being so affected by the Olympics to reflect the amazing year we’ve had as a nation and when I heard the Games Makers choir, I knew they had to sing it.
“They’re the people who made the Games and this is the people’s song.
“It was a lot of fun. It’s been a good year. There were 30 recording but there are 300 in the actual choir.”
Alistair will be returning from his home in York for Christmas.
And he is hoping there could be a Christmas gig – one of his intimate concerts in Glaisdale for his fans – before the end of the year.
