Bee a part of it

BUDDING beekeepers are being invited to a meeting by Whitby’s Beekeepers’ Association (WBKA).

The group is holding a beginners’ meeting at Dalehouse, Staithes, and is encouraging residents who may be interested in taking up the hobby to come along and get involved.

WBKA secretary Tony Jefferson said: “As thoughts turn to the Spring, the improving weather and the oil seed rape flowering, our first honey source of the year, it is time again to offer any help to budding beekeepers.

“We will have members present to answer any bee related question and will be providing the opportunity to look inside a bee hive and get as close up and personal as they want!

“We have a number of spare bee veils that will be available so we will show the bees to groups throughout the afternoon and it will be a good opportunity for anyone thinking about beekeeping to come along to meet the beekeepers and bees.

We are fortunate to have a number of new beekeepers over the last few years so any new starter should not feel alone as there’s loads of help to be had.”

The 2011 WBKA beginners’ meeting is on Saturday 23 April from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at Dalehouse, Staithes,

WBKA signs will be posted in the village to direct people to the apiary.
