I read your reports of the ordure spouted by officials and councillors of Scarborough and Whitby Council about the increases in council taxes being due to an improvement in services.

If they believe this then they need the men who cart patients of
f in strait jackets.

Leave off please.

In this rural district, services and life are worse than they were 10 years ago.

Regular gritting and snow ploughs in winter months are a memory.

Because nobody bothers to clear them, ditches, gutters and drains are blocked so after heavy rain there is flooding (at 85 I’ve spent an hour today clearing gutters outside my house because I know the council won’t do the job, so who’s the mug?).

Try getting any sense or action about this from officials but don’t hold your breath.

Bins emptied in alternate weeks.

And now the possibility of fines if we don’t follow their orders about what we may or may not put in them, when we may put them out for collection and the chance that collectors will report us for not following the latest dictat by the recycling department.

And that’s a joke.

A lot of it is being shipped abroad without any attempt to recycle.

I understand councillors wanted an above inflation increase in expenses and some of them actually had the audacity to claim they should get salaries and pensions.

How about the spirit of public service?

What happened to that?

Still, I suppose the extravagance of Gorbals Mick and MPs of all parties is infectious.

None of them, MPs, councillors or officials, seem to give a damn about the plight of pensioners on fixed incomes.

As far as I can make out the only section of the community that has benefited in the past 10 years, apart from our masters just mentioned, is the one that doesn’t want to work and lives off the hog on social security.

Tell me one thing that has happened that encourages that lot to find a job.
