RE Whitby's Maternity Unit – I live 10 miles from Whitby so my journey is 30+ miles to a hospital.
My youngest daughter was born in Whitby in 1982 – on an Egton Show day – and I was stuck in traffic in labour; not a very relaxing time.

This decision to close it has obviously been made by a man.

No man – if he ever had to go through the pain of labour, the worry of giving birth, making sure the baby is fine during delivery and being frightened when it’s your first – would put himself through a journey on that road, so far from family.

I find it unbelievable.
