GOTHS in an array of weird and wonderful costumes descended on Whitby in what the goth weekend's organisers are calling one of the best festival's yet.
With door supervisors overseeing capacity at the Little Angel and the Elsinore, promoter Sam Hoyle said the move has benefited the rest of the town with revellers flocking to venues including the The Met which was a lot fuller than last year and the Resolution, which was forced to stop serving alcohol for around 30 minutes on Saturday night due to the number of punters.

This year's weekend had some additional events in store for people such as a Hallowe'en special effects monster make up demonstration ensuring the Resolution Hotel's function room was packed full of people and Sunday trading at Whitby Leisure Centre also proved a hit.

The Pavilion was bustling with goths throughout the weekend who enjoyed the stalls and watching the bands take to the stage.

"Trading in general has been up," said Mr Hoyle.

"There must have been more people about. It's been fantastic.

"The opener – Project – at the Pavilion on Friday night went down an absolute storm as did Crud who came over from the States.

"So many people came. There was so much going on," he said.

And the traditional goth football match at Whitby Town Football Club's Turnbull Ground was also a cause for celebration – this time for the Real Gothic side which beat Athletic Gazette 4-3.

Mr Hoyle said the goths were over the moon with the final result and put the win down to the team 'putting in lots of extra training and sessions at the gym in preparation for the clash'.

A raffle at the game also raised around £180 for St Catherine's Whitby Day Hospice.
