As a parent of a serving officer recently returned from Afghanistan I would like to offer my sincere condolences at this very sad time to the family of Corporal Lawrence. Although I am unknown to you my thoughts are with you and I hope that you may draw strength from each other.

I didn't know Damian very well, nor had I seen him for number of years. However, I was always so proud of his exploits in the Army. The 16 year old boy I knew all those years ago had clearly become a fine young man, and a fine father.

I think about Damian's loyalty, genuineness and humour. I think about buying him a cigar when he was about 16 and visiting in Perth! I also think about his loving family who made me so welcome in Whitby all those years ago. I share their loss and sorrow.
My heartfelt condolences to Alison, June, Tom and family.
Your Australian friends are thinking of you.

As a Whitby man and former Green Howard My wife and I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Cpl Damien Lawrence, yet another young life lost in that dreadful place which they call Afghanistan.
It is always a tragedy when we lose a soldier but when it is one of your own (Green Howard) and from Whitby it reaches closer to home.
God bless and take care of you Damien.

My thoughts are with Damien’s family who like Damien have served and influenced not just there immediate community but looking at the condolence messages coming from sources around the world a much broader community as well.

Damian you will be sadly missed.
Knowing you for as many years as I did I'll find it hard knowing you wont be around.
My memories of you will always live on, from fighting over whose turn it was on the 'bat bike' as kids,to you harrassing me to buy you a pint!

My prayers go out to Auntie,Rikki and the rest of his family.

Rest In Peace mate
