Whole area will grind to a halt
JUST another moaning letter – this one's about the width and positioning of the Spar and Lidl's entrances.
Both these entrances hold traffic up and cause congestion.
The Spar entrance isn’t wide enough because cars coming out hold up cars going in and cars turning right into Lidl’s entrance cause a build-up of traffic behind them.
Numerous times last summer I was stopped at the Sneaton Castle Farm junction unable to move into Castle Road because that part of the road was at a standstill.
You don’t have to be a clever person to realise there should have been a roundabout at this end of Love Lane and then cars could go in and out of both supermarkets straight off the roundabout.
Probably in about 10 years someone will realise they have got it wrong – just like the mistake made at Mayfield Road traffic lights – and do something about it.
But no amount of road alterations would help at all if S Harrison builds 90 houses and a Tesco supermarket in Sneaton Castle grounds.
The whole area would just grind to a halt in the summer.
Sainsbury’s said the Sneaton Castle site wasn’t suitable because the majority of the site lies outside Whitby’s development limits and local plan policy states that retail development will only be permitted where the site is inside the development limits and not in open countryside.
So why are S Harrison and Tesco deciding to totally ignore our local plan policy?
Let’s just hope common sense prevails and this ridiculous scheme doesn’t get the go ahead.
