Now we've had the disclosure of our MPs expenses, isn't it time we now do the same for our local North Yorkshire County Council representatives who have been voted in?
In some cases these people also sit on many other committees and claim thousands of pounds in expenses.
Yet some have questioned the financial and democratic value of the recent parish poll, stating in the Whitby Gazette recently the money could have been better spent elsewhere.
As some of them got in with only 30% of voters turning out and some winning by only a couple of hundred votes, I think this would be a worthwhile exercise in itself and the public could decide whether their expenses could have been better spent elsewhere.
