Village memorial opens
FOLLOWING our photo of the schoolchildren at Commondale in Looking Back recently, reader Jean Malcolmson of Runswick Bay has sent the Whitby Gazette more photos of the area.
The picture at the top of this page, taken by Tom Watson of Lythe, shows the school pupils with the village brick works in the background.
The photograph to the left shows the opening of the Castleton memorial with a fairly sizeable crowd looking on.
