New cafe plan for Raithwaite

RAITHWAITE Hall is planning to expand its offering by opening a tea room and cafe within the grounds.

A planning application for the Skelwith Group, which owns the hotel between Sandsend and Whitby, has been submitted to Scarborough Borough Council.

It is requesting permission that one of the five new holiday cottages being constructed at the Home Farm part of the estate is actually converted into a tea room instead. There are already six holiday cottages in that area of the 80 acre grounds.

If given the go-ahead, the tea room would be the latest development on the Estate which has seen the construction of a 45 bedroom hotel, a Lake lodge, separate holiday cottages and self catering lodges.

The Keep, a 28 bedroom annexe with luxury dog accommodation is in the latter stages of construction while planning permission has recently been granted for 46 chalet style lodges.

A spokesperson for the company said the proposal is considered to be marginally different to the current planning approval and a tea room wouldn’t add to the impact of these developments.

Traffic movements will be discouraged as it is expected that the tea room will be used by hotel guests and passing walkers.

Documents submitted with the application added: “The intention is to generate additional dining facilities in an intimate and informal atmosphere to supplement the existing facilities at the hotel.

“Following planning approval for an additional 46 holiday lodges spread throughout the estate further informal refreshment facilities are desired.”
