Ice call for Danby crew

DANBY fire crew headed out in icy conditions last Friday to rescue an elderly couple who had become stranded.

The crew received a call at around 1.30pm to a report of an elderly couple whose vehicle had become stuck in ice on the B2517 at Ingleby Greenhow, near Great Ayton.

The incident involved a male driver and female passenger, both in their eighties, whose Renault Scenic mobility car had become stranded. A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that water had flowed from a nearby wood across the road, which then froze due to the freezing weather conditions, making the road impassable

The fire crew was able to free the vehicle by gritting the road and neither occupant of the vehicle suffered any injuries.
