House in Danby harmful to views say planners
THE CONSTRUCTION of a single storey detached building for use as a residential annex at a bungalow in Danby was refused by the North York Moors National Park planning committee.
Applicant Wendy Simms of Ainthorpe Lane, Danby said the building would replace an existing domestic garage that would be demolished.
She wanted the building to accommodate visiting relatives and her son and said that it would be built instead of a proposed extension that had previously been given approval.
It would comprise a bedroom, lounge-dining room, galley kitchen and wet room. Two extensions to the building had been permitted in 2001 and 2002.
Committee members were told that discussions had taken place between planning officers and Mrs Simms when she was told planning permission was unlikely to be granted but she had nevertheless gone ahead with the application.
She had also been refused permission to build a detached bungalow in the garden to the north of the existing dwelling. It had been refused on the grounds that the site was outside the main built up part of Ainthorpe and if allowed would have an unacceptable impact on the visual amenity of the area.
Planning officers recommended refusing the application on the grounds that if it would be harmful to the character and appearance of the site and of the wider views of the area.
